Student teams with their single-seater race cars at the Formula Student Festival 2026 in Glyfada

ECOSHIFT® joined the 5th Formula Student Festival, held from 25 to 27 September 2026 at the Old Town Hall in Glyfada, highlighting the technologies shaping the future of mobility.

Dr Elias Nassiopoulos, BU Manager of ECOSHIFT®, Petros Petropoulos Group, participated at the panel discussion moderated by Mr Thomas Efthymiou, as part of the roundtable session ‘Software-Defined Vehicle / The car becomes software’. The discussion centered on developments in the automotive sector, the potential of artificial intelligence and the evolution of vehicles as software in this new era.

During the discussion, Dr Nassiopoulos placed particular emphasis on the issue of the security of software-defined vehicles and cybersecurity, highlighting the need for the regulatory framework to evolve in step with technology. As vehicles acquire more digital functions and increased connectivity, the protection of their systems and the development of more specific European regulations are critical factors for the future of motoring.

The discussion also touched on autonomous driving and how the role of the car in everyday life is changing. As technology advances, the vehicle is increasingly becoming a means that can fulfil its primary purpose – transport – with greater autonomy. At the same time, the driving experience and the enjoyment of driving may take on a different role, particularly in controlled environments such as a racetrack.

Of particular interest was an idea he shared regarding motorcyclist safety. Building on existing blind-spot systems, which alert the driver when a vehicle is in the blind spot, he referred to the prospect of developing these systems so that, in future, they will not only warn the driver but also prevent a lane change when a motorbike is detected in the blind spot.

Speaker at the Formula Student Festival 2026

At the event, student teams from Greek universities and polytechnics presented the single seaters they had designed and built, showcasing the creativity and technical expertise of the new generation of engineers. At the same time, they had the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry representatives, linking academic knowledge with its practical application.
